One Picture Is Worth a Thousand Memories By Kris Christopherson
One of my favorite memories of my son and his grandfather, my dad, is actually a still moment, a photograph.
There are so many wonderful activities, conversations and moments that I cherish and can recall, but this one picture portrays them all into one loving remembrance. It is a simple picture, slightly out of focus, and could be closer, but it is perfect to me. The picture reveals a moment that belonged to just my son and his grandfather, D-daddy as he is affectionately named. Although the moment belonged to them, I am so pleased to have been able to capture it and to create a lasting memory.
The picture is of my dad and son walking side by side across a small bridge, their backs to me, to the camera. D-daddy and my son were on a mission; they were going to feed the turtle that lived in the stream on my dad's property. Heads bent down, walking over the wooden bridge, my dad towered over my 2-year-old son. Their blond hair so similar from the back, I could see a glimpse of what my son might look like as he grew. I could not hear what they were saying when the picture was taken, but I can only imagine my son was excitedly chattering away and his D-daddy was listening to every last word.
To me, this picture symbolizes the past, present and the future. It illustrates how my dad will walk beside my son in all of his pursuits. His grandfather will support and love him in fun times, hard times, all times, just as he has done for me as a father.
Even though we are not geographically close to his grandfather, the photograph illustrates how the two will have fun together, and will have a close relationship despite the distance. Their relationship continues to strengthen, and this picture reminds me of their growing bond. It is a favorite memory.
