Ringing in the New Year
Celebrations Around the United States
By Suzy Feine
Also known for its headliners, Las Vegas offers a number of family-oriented shows on New Year's Eve.
The Monte Carlo hotel features the magician, Lance Burton, for a special New Year's Eve performance at 7 p.m. This 90-minute show is dubbed "kid-friendly," as Burton frequently pulls kids from the audience to assist with his illusions.
The MGM Grand hosts the world's foremost magician, David Copperfield, on New Year's Eve. Copperfield's performances include dazzling light and visual effects, plus some pyrotechnics to captivate the audience. Three shows are offered on New Year's Eve at 4:30, 7:30 and 10:30 p.m., each of which are kid-friendly, include audience participation and will astound audience members of all ages.
The show, Myst籥, will take center stage at the Cirque du Soleil Theatre in the Treasure Island hotel on New Year's Eve. Not your everyday circus act, Myst籥 combines 72 acrobats, aerialists, dancers, musicians and comedians with visual effects to create a fantastic visual display for young and old. Show times are 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve for this performance geared toward those 5 and older.
