Just a Hue of Green
Getting on Board to Help Protect the Earth
By Charlene Torkelson
- Use your vehicle less by walking, riding a bicycle, carpooling or using public transportation. Cities are looking at alternatives for public transportation such as light rail systems and incentives for carpools.
- Turn off lights and energy-using devices when not in use.
- If you are not at home during certain portions of the day, whether for work or school, have your thermostat set to reduce heat and air-conditioning automatically during those uninhabited hours. This is also a great proposal for schools and businesses.
- Get involved. Make suggestions. Don't wait for someone else to take the initiative to organize and do something about energy use. Be a starter and get information. It's not just a matter of global warming; it's a matter of efficient use of our environment to improve the future for other generations – our children and grandchildren.
