Special Pajamas to Get You Through "Hot Flash" Nights

But middle-aged women aren't the only people who suffer from night sweats while dealing with additional stress. Sometimes illness, pregnancy, nursing and even medications can cause night sweats.

Anne Best was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 43 and began a round of surgeries and chemotherapy that completely disrupted her body's ability to regulate temperature. Her sleep was constantly interrupted by terrible night sweats. Finally her husband, a former member of the Canadian National Ski Team, suggested she wear some of his athletic wear to bed, since he wore it for its wicking properties.

"I loved it for its ability to keep me dry, but it was scratchy and not really ideal sleepwear," says Best. "I decided to try to develop sleepwear that would have the same function, but be comfortable as sleepwear as well. Something else that was important to me was odor management control because with all the heavy medications I was on, waking up feeling like I didn't smell good was definitely an issue I wanted to address."

Best's line of sleepwear, Dry Dreams, debuted about a year ago and includes pillowcases as well as pajamas.
HotCoolWear, recognizing that men can have conditions that cause temperature fluctuations, have even expanded their collection to include a limited men's product line.

"Our women's line was always popular, but then we started to get calls from women and men who said they weren't menopausal but had diabetes or were on medication or undergoing chemo and had problems sleeping because of hot flashes," says McClung. We realized there was definitely a demand for this for more than just menopausal women."
