Baby's First Halloween

11 Inexpensive Costumes
for Frugal Moms

By Shannon McKelden

Pages:  1  2  3  4

  • Beads or sequins
  • Sharp items such as feathers with quills or pins
  • Anything long enough to wrap around the baby's neck, such as ribbons or string
  • Anything that can come off and become a choking hazard
  • "Fun furs," which may shed, allowing Baby to breathe in the small particles

Also make sure anything dyed is rinsed thoroughly and then washed in cold water to prevent bleeding onto Baby's skin. And never leave Baby unattended in a costume, even at naptime.

Here are 11 great costume ideas for Baby:

1. Little Lamb
Use a white sleeper and add black felt hooves to the feet of the sleeper, along with black mittens. From white "wooly" fabric, make a cute lamb's tail to attach to the back of the sleeper and lamb's ears to attach to a white hat or headband.

2. Police Officer
For a police officer, use a blue sleeper and sew on a gold or silver police badge made of scrap fabric or foil. Sew or hot glue a strip of black felt around the middle for a belt. Sew or glue black felt onto the feet to make shoes.

3. Firefighter
Start with a red sleeper and follow the directions for the police officer above. Baby could carry around a stuffed Dalmatian to complete the outfit.
