Shopping for Your Adolescent Grandchild

Adolescent boys also like retro logo T-shirts, especially '70s rock bands. If your grandson enjoys sports, a hooded sweatshirt with a favorite team logo is a popular gift (just make sure you know which team – you don't want to buy your grandson a Dallas Cowboys sweatshirt when he is a staunch Philadelphia Eagles fan!).

Shopping the Web

How can you make gift shopping easier? Take advantage of the options available through Internet shopping:

  • Encourage your grandchild to create a wish list. A growing number of Internet stores offer a wish list feature. Your grandchild can go through the Web site and check items he'd like to have. If he gets the item, it can be deleted from the list, so it is always kept current.
  • Use the Web site's sort feature. Many shopping sites allow you to find gifts based on age, sex or interest. It can help generate ideas appropriate for your grandchild.
  • Does your grandchild have a particular collection or interest? Do a Web search to find stores that specialize in that interest. There are Web stores for sports teams and colleges, for people who collect frogs or music boxes, for discount ballet gear or computer parts.
