Shiatsu

A Healthy Balance

By Lyn Mettler

Pages:  1  2  3  4

Whether you try it by yourself or with a practitioner, proponents say Shiatsu may help you to remove some unhealthy roadblocks and get back on the highway to health.

Self-Shiatsu for the Face

The face is a good place to perform Shiatsu on yourself, as it contains pressure points that correspond with many different organs. Facial self-Shiatsu also can release tension and increase circulation in the face. When trying the below techniques, exert pressure on the exhale and repeat three or more times.

  • Massage the ears all over, strongly squeezing and pulling them.
  • Starting under your chin, use your thumbs to press under the jawbone sliding outward to the ears.
  • With the tips of your forefingers, press into the hollows of the jawbone just behind the earlobe.
  • Starting in front of your lower ear, press thumbs under the cheekbone until you near the nose.
  • Press into the hollows outside the nostrils with the tips of the forefingers.
  • Massage the temples with the tips of the middle fingers.
