My 11-month-old doesn't seem interested in playing with other toddlers. Should I encourage him by joining a playgroup?
It is totally appropriate for an 11-month-old to be focused on his or her caregivers rather than other toddlers. Playgroups are great, especially if he is not in daycare, but if you join one do NOT push him to interact with other young ones. He may just want to cling to you and watch others. He will gain his sense of security in time from his bond with parents and gradually venture out on his own. This may not happen until late preschool or kindergarten. Some people are naturally introverted and others extroverted. Both personality types have advantages and disadvantages. Observe him and help him be himself.
