My son is marrying a woman with two young children. What is my role as a stepgrandparent?
The role of a stepparent and a grandparent are not too different: to be a buddy and a friend to the children. Children can not have too many people to love and be interested in them. Neither stepparents nor grandparents should interfere with a parent's job as a caretaker and disciplinarian unless they are babysitting or the children are visiting without the parents present. Enjoy the children and the luxury of being a grandparent, and if the "birth" grandparents try to compete, just refuse to play that game."
