What are the most common medications that can cause incontinence? And what medications are prescribed to treat incontinence?
Diuretics are the most common medications that can cause incontinence. However, this can be easily solved by taking the medication first thing in the morning and eliminating alcohol. The medications most commonly prescribed to treat incontinence in adults include: Ditropan, Ditropan XL (long acting form of Ditropan), Detrol (tolterodine), Detrol LA (long acting form of Detrol). Urispas and Bentyl are less commonly used. Occasionally DDAVP (usually only for nighttime incontinence) or imipramine is used in adults. Sometimes vaginal estrogens are prescribed for women. Sometimes for men with benign prostatic hyperplasia, alpha blockers such as Hytrin (terazosin) and Flomax are used."
