What is the best way to determine the type of incontinence I have?
The best way to determine the type of urinary incontinence is usually to see a doctor, have a physical and discuss the history of the problem. The types of urinary incontinence include: stress incontinence (urinary incontinence that occurs when coughing, laughing, sneezing, straining); urge incontinence (patient gets an urge to go to the bathroom but doesn't get there in time); and social incontinence (where extrinsic social factors play a role – such as incapacitating factors that cause the patient to slowly get to a bathroom, such as many neurological diseases). To determine which type you have, simple tests may be required depending on the patient's condition. Treatments may consist of changing your behavior, medical therapy or, in some cases, minimally invasive surgical procedures. Be sure to ask your doctor which method is right for you."
